The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Joint Transport and Customs Sub-Committee meeting was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 10-11 September 2024 to promote the Early Harvest (EH) Implementation of the GMS Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA).
The Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program (GMS Program) will hold a Development Partners’ Meeting (DPM) in Kunming, People’s Republic of China (PRC) and via videoconferencing on 5 November 2024, ahead of the 8th GMS Leaders’ Summit on 6-7 November 2024.
The successful completion of the trial run under the 'Early Harvest' (EH) implementation of GMS Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA) from June 22-27, 2024, marked a historic milestone in GMS cooperation. The convoy, consisting of five semi-trailer trucks and two buses, traveled from Kunming, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, via Lao PDR and Thailand, covering approximately 5,000 kilometers round-trip.
Since 2020, the coronavirus disease pandemic have caused various constraints on global supply chains and logistics, significantly affecting the supply of goods, their prices, and people’s livelihoods. The key will be how to secure supply chains and logistics, without being affected by these external factors.
The 6th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Environment Ministers' Meeting (EMM6) is hosted by the Kingdom of Cambodia and will be attended by the Environment Ministers and senior officials of the GMS countries; representatives from development partner organizations (DPs), civil society organizations and the private sector; and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) officials.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment and Asian Development Bank are excited to invite tech companies, startups, and firms, development partners, academic and research institutions to showcase innovative solutions and technologies to climate challenges and environmental issues during the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion Environment Ministers’ Meeting (EMM6). The event will be held from September 10 to 13, 2024, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, bringing together environment ministers from the GMS countries.
The GMS Task Force on Trade and Investment held the 2nd training and the 3rd meeting on January 23-25 in Vientiane. 30 government officials joined the training and studied SME financing schemes and communication strategies. The task force meeting agreed on the work plan for 2024 to promote digitalization and better engage with the private sector. On January 25, delegates visited Vientiane Logistics Park and Vientiane Saysettha Development Zone and exchanged views with the private sector.
