Training techniques on processing and use of agricultural by-products for household dairy production to minority women in Soc Trang Province

Dairy consumption in the GMS has grown dramatically over the past 20 years, and has accelerated in the past 10 years. In response to growing demand dairy production, both large-scale and smallholder, within the region has also grown at pace. This is particularly true of Viet Nam. The smallholder dairy industry in Vietnam, and specifically Soc Trang province. Between 2004 and 2014 the Soc Trang dairy herd increased from 477 head to 6161 head.

Tracing Cross Border Livestock Movement and the Risk of Spread of Foot and Mouth Disease on the China-Laos and China-Myanmar Border in Yunnan Province

The project was designed in alignment with the Trans-boundary Animal Disease Zoning Trial Program in Yunnan Province, a long-term program approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China.

Implementing GMS Core Agriculture Support Program Phase 2 (TA- 8163 REG)

Core Agriculture Support Program Phase 2 (CASP 2) project in Myanmar started in January 2014 as the first regional technical assistance. TA inception meeting was held on 29 January 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw. Project site selection was carried out from December 2014 to January 2015. There are three main activities implemented under the LOA with the implementation period of 15 months from March 2015 to June 2016 in eight townships of Nay Pyi Taw Council territory, Mandalay and Bago Regions.

Establishment of Participatory Guarantee System-PGS in Laos

The project of establishment of Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) in Lao PDR is one of LOA activity under CASP 2 TA 8163-REG, aimed to establish the PGS legal framework and the PGS pilots in the country. The project selected 3 farmer groups as PGS pilots namely Huaphan Bamboo Group, Xiengkhoang Organic Farmer Association and Savannakhet Organic Farmer Group. The project worked with 280 farmers covering 17 villages of 3 three districts (Xiengxay, Kaisonphomvihanh, and Paek), with total area of 309.81 ha, and average production of 194 tons per year.

Green Water Management project (GWM) is aimed at increasing agriculture productivity and producing safe food products through adoption of the GWM technology on a sustainable climate friendly agriculture (CFA) farm that leads to reduce poverty through income generation from the CFA farms.

Ms. Puth Khiev is an active young women farmer of project on Development of Natural-Based Integrated Farming Model for Adaptation to Climate Change in Tbaung Khmum province. She is 34 years old and has one daughter who lives in Vihear Khpos village, Sangkat Suong, Suong district, Tbong Khmom province. Her husband serves as construction worker at the city. She was selected to be a farmer beneficiary for the project since June 2015.

Assessing Soil Quality and Soil Carbon Sequestration on Biochar Application for Increasing Organic Vegetable in Acid Soils

Introducing biochar to be used in agriculture will probably reduce costs in using chemical fertilizers and also can increase carbon sequestration in soil. In addition to this, it is a good way to conserve natural resources and environment.

Promoting Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) for Small Scale Organic Farming in Thailand

The project aims at strengthening organic agriculture communities and production chain in Thailand by setting up Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) as an alternative and complementary tool to third-party certification within the organic sector and advocates for the recognition of PGS by the market and government. PGS are locally focused quality assurance systems. They certifying producers based on active participation of stakeholders and are built on a foundation of trust, social networks and knowledge exchange.
