Under the Core Agricultural Support Program Phase II (CASP II), the countries of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) aim to be recognized as the leading producers of safe food, using climate-friendly agricultural practices, and integration into regional and global markets through the region’s economic corridors.
The project of establishment of Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) in Lao PDR is one of LOA activity under CASP 2 TA 8163-REG, aimed to establish the PGS legal framework and the PGS pilots in the country. The project selected 3 farmer groups as PGS pilots namely Huaphan Bamboo Group, Xiengkhoang Organic Farmer Association and Savannakhet Organic Farmer Group. The project worked with 280 farmers covering 17 villages of 3 three districts (Xiengxay, Kaisonphomvihanh, and Paek), with total area of 309.81 ha, and average production of 194 tons per year.
Green Water Management project (GWM) is aimed at increasing agriculture productivity and producing safe food products through adoption of the GWM technology on a sustainable climate friendly agriculture (CFA) farm that leads to reduce poverty through income generation from the CFA farms.
The project aims at strengthening organic agriculture communities and production chain in Thailand by setting up Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) as an alternative and complementary tool to third-party certification within the organic sector and advocates for the recognition of PGS by the market and government. PGS are locally focused quality assurance systems. They certifying producers based on active participation of stakeholders and are built on a foundation of trust, social networks and knowledge exchange.
