Cambodia PGI

The GI logo of Cambodia is mark approved by the Geographical Indications office of Cambodia Ministry of Commerce. To register a product as a protected geographical indication, operators (farmers, processors, traders, etc.) must group together within an organization that will submit a registration request and manage the PGI after it has been registered. They must define the production zone and explain how it influences product quality, and describe the GI products’ production methods and the specificities that distinguish them from generic versions. These elements make up the PGI’s book of specifications. They must also elaborate control and traceability procedures. Once the geographical indication has been registered, all of these elements make it possible to provide consumers with guarantees as to the product’s origin and quality, and justify a higher sales price than for generic versions.
