Special Meeting of the Regional Power Trade Coordination Committee (RPTCC-9A)

The Special Meeting of the Regional Power Trade Coordination Committee (RPTCC-9A) of the Greater Mekong Subregion was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 14 to 15 December 2010. The special meeting discussed further the establishment of a proposed Regional Coordination Center to oversee GMS power trade development. The proposal was initiated at the RPTCC-9 meeting in Shenzhen, the People's Republic of China on 26 October 2010). The RPTCC-9A meeting was also held to endorse the final results and recommendations of RETA 6440, such as priority interconnections identified in the master plan update, and other activities in relation to the milestones to fully achieve Stage 1 of power trading, and take up Subregional Energy Forum (SEF) matters, such as the appointment of an SEF Chair for 2 years and agreement on future topics for the knowledge sharing sessions. The special meeting was jointly organized by the Energy Policy and Planning Office of Thailand and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It was attended by RPTCC nominees of the six GMS member countries, as well as by representatives of ADB, Agence Francaise de Developpement, GMS Environment Operations Center, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
