Lao PDR, Thailand Note Growth in Relations

Thailand Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-O-Cha congratulated newly-elected Lao PDR Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh in a phone conversation on 8 April. The Lao PDR Prime Minister lauded the government of Thailand's efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked them for the support extended to Lao PDR. He also expressed gratitude for Thailand's support in Lao PDR's human resource development. They noted the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and acknowledged growth of their relations and cooperation, which have been increasingly enhanced through various cooperation mechanisms.

Lao PDR and Thailand are both members of the GMS Economic Cooperation Program supported by ADB through the TA “Sustaining the Gains of Regional Cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion.”  The GMS Program is managed by an institutional mechanism, involving both the political and operational levels of the six GMS member countries, and is based on continuing consultation and dialogue.
