Regional Workshop: Strengthening Risk Communications for Health Emergencies in the GMS
The Department of Communicable Disease Control of the Ministry of Health of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) conducted a Regional Workshop on Strengthening Risk Communications for Health Emergencies in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) on 12 to 13 September 2019 in Xieng Kouang Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic (under L3465/G0516-LAO: GMS Health Security Project). The overall objective of this workshop was to assess the implementation of the Asia Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases (APSED) III risk communications focus areas in the GMS countries to improve national and regional risk communication structures and organization to respond to health threats. The participants of the workshop were staff of the Ministries of Health of Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam who are involved in health education and information, communicable disease control, public health communications, media relations, health promotion, and surveillance and response to health threats. Staff of development partners responsible for risk communications and APSED implementation also participated in the workshop.
