Regional Exchange Workshop on Malaria Interventions Among Mobile Migrant Populations
Event
17 to 18 May 2018, Bangkok, Thailand
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) in coordination with International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized the Regional Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Malaria Interventions Among Mobile Migrant Populations in Bangkok on 17 to 18 May 2018 to share successes, challenges, and lessons learned during the implementation of RCDTA 8959-REG: Malaria and Communicable Diseases Control in the GMS. The participants were officials of the Ministry of Health of Cambodia and Lao PDR, officials of the Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar, village health volunteers, mobile traders, and peer educators from Lao PDR and Myanmar.
The objectives of the meeting were to (i) strengthen local capacity by sharing lessons learned between district/province health offices from the pilot interventions in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar; (ii) discuss experiences, lessons learned, and challenges that will be the knowledge base for scale-up of RCDTA’s pilot models for malaria prevention to national and regional level; (iii) explore appropriate malaria implementation strategies among migrant and mobile populations and host communities and how these can be further developed as intervention models; and (iv) strengthen cross border partnership and collaboration among malaria partners and governments in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar.
