Digital Technologies for Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability Workshop
In the age of rapid global digital transformation, leveraging digital technologies offers unprecedented opportunities for addressing sustainability challenges and accelerating the green transition in the GMS. Although technologies such as AI-enabled pollution monitoring, mobile-phone based early warning systems, and drone-based technologies for biodiversity conservation and monitoring have been piloted, penetration of such technologies in the GMS is still limited.
The upcoming Workshop on Digital Technologies for Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability will further the discussion on how digital technologies can be harnessed for climate action, by building upon the previous CCESP achievements under this topic - the Digital Technology Needs Assessment, endorsed in October 2023, the thematic sessions during the 27th Annual Meeting of the GMS Working Group on the Environment, and the International Workshop on Climate Actions and Environmental Sustainability in the GMS, held on 10-11 September 2024. The workshop will focus on four technologies—artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, drones, and mobile applications—to address key challenges such as pollution monitoring, sustainable forest management, disaster risk reduction, and carbon credit trading. The workshop will include highly interactive working sessions, where participants representing various sectors and organizations will collaboratively draft project proposals that can be further developed into specific Technical Assistance or Regional Investment Projects .
