Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Viet Nam on Track toward Achieving Targets for International Foreign Arrivals in 2023




Cambodia recorded 4.4 million international tourist arrivals in the first 10 months of 2023, a 180% increase over the same period in 2022. Tourism Minister Sok Soken remarked that based on this figure, Cambodia is expected to receive approximately 5.4 million foreign visitors in 2023. 

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) also anticipates ending 2023 on a high travel note, expecting between 2.9 million to 3.3 million international visitors by the end of 2023. Lao PDR has welcomed 2.4 million tourists in the first nine months of the year–a 285% increase compared to 2022. At the start of the year, the Government of Lao PDR rolled out a plan to attract at least 1.4 million foreign tourists in 2023. 

Thailand is set to exceed its target of attracting more than 25 million foreign arrivals for 2023, according to Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand. She credited the successful revival of the tourism industry to the government’s economic and tourism stimulus campaigns. Top visitors include travelers from Malaysia, followed by the People’s Republic of China. 

Viet Nam achieved its target of 8 million international visitors, welcoming 8.9 million travelers by September of this year. It is looking to welcome around 12-13 million international visitors by the end of the year. Top visitors include travelers from the Republic of Korea (South Korea), followed by the PRC.
