Cambodia Gets Ready for Peak Tourism Season

The Government of Cambodia is preparing to introduce enhanced travel measures in time for its peak tourism season, which will run from mid-October through March of next year. These measures includes simplifying entry procedures, following the recommendation of Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet, and preparing to open the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport.

Cambodia expects to welcome about 5 million international visitors this year. The country’s Ministry of Tourism noted that Cambodia has already welcomed more than 3.5 million international tourists for the first eight months of 2023–a 251% increase over the same period in 2022.

To simplify entry procedures with Thailand, Cambodia is considering allowing Thai tourists to visit Siem Reap, Cambodia, with citizen identification cards, instead of passports.

Preparations to open the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport are also underway. Direct flights to Seoul, the Republic of Korea, are set to begin in December 2023, promising to attract more tourists to Cambodia.

The Cambodian Prime Minister has also proposed opening direct flights from Phuket, Thailand, and Cebu, Philippines, to the country.
