Lao PDR Road Project to Improve Travel to Northern Thailand
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) will build a section of National Road 11 that will make it easier to travel to northern Thailand.
A report from Vientiane Times said construction of the 124-kilometer road from Nonsavanh-Kokkhaodor villages to Vang and Namsang villages via Xanakham district will start at the end of the year and finish in 3 years. It will link with a road in Xayaboury province, which borders Thailand.
The Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) of Thailand is funding the project, which costs more than 1.8 billion Thai baht ($56 million). The report said Lao PDR Deputy Minister of Finance Thipphakone Chanthavongsa and NEDA President Perames Vudthitornetiraks signed the loan agreement last month.
The 124-kilometer road project is part of a bigger NEDA-supported project to link Tad Thong village to Sangthong district.
