Steering Committee Meeting on the GMS Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project (December 2018)
A steering committee meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project was held on 5 December 2018, back-to-back with the 42nd Meeting of the GMS Tourism Working Group (TWG-42) in Kien Giang, Viet Nam.
The project, which is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is helping enhance the socioeconomic benefits of tourism in the subregion by improving urban–rural connectivity and urban environmental conditions and strengthening capacity for tourism management and project implementation. It involves three GMS countries: Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and Viet Nam.
The meeting was chaired by Tran Phu Cuong, director general of the International Cooperation Department, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and Steven Schipani, who heads project administration at ADB’s Viet Nam Resident Mission.
The agenda included progress reports from the participating countries and the establishment of international ferry services between Kampot, Cambodia and Phu Quoc, Viet Nam.
