ASEAN Facility to Fund Critical Infrastructure in Mekong Countries

The ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) has launched an “Inclusive Finance Facility” to provide concessional financing for critical infrastructure in three countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion—Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and Myanmar.

The AIF is a regional financing initiative established by Southeast Asian governments and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2011.

The Inclusive Finance Facility was announced in Chiang Rai, Thailand on 4 April at the launching of the ASEAN Catalytic Green Finance Facility, a new initiative to spur more than $1 billion in green infrastructure investments across Southeast Asia.

Administered by ADB, the AIF has committed $520 million for energy, transport, water, and urban infrastructure projects across the region.
