Project Description

The proposed project supports the development of infrastructure and public service of the border area within the Chinese side of the Ruili-Muse Border Economic Zone with objectives of facilitating the flow of goods, people, and investment capital and providing better public services for local residents. Outputs include; (i) building 4 schools (including kindergarten, elementary, middle and highschools); (2) improving infrastructure of the Ruili International Logistic Park with total area of 239.2 hectare. Link with national or regional strategies: Ruili is a national land port, China-s most important land port with Myanmar. It is a critical node along the GMS economic corridor and the Pan-Asia Railway Western Branch, and it is one of the key border economic zones that are supported by Chinese government.




Progress (as of March 2021)

Ongoing. ADB loan financing was approved on 10 Dec 2018, signed on 14 April 2019, effective 11 July 2019. Strong progress since inception. Sixteen packages will be procured in 2020. Detailed design of most packages will be completed in 2020, which will enable strong implementation throughout 2021.

  • The project will contribute to poverty reduction by (i) improving access to and quality of basic municipal services; (ii) improving people-s health and decreasing healthcare expenses; (iii) increasing job opportunities in agricultural, industrial, construction, trade, and tourism sectors through developing roads and border economic zones; and create job opportunities during construction and operation of these infrastructure; (iv) promoting education through building primary schools, and enhancing their capacity; and (v) providing job and education opportunities to border residents of Myanmar.
