Project Description

The TA will strengthen the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office-s capacity to coordinate multi-country experience development, marketing, and deliver knowledge services.




Progress (as of March 2021)

Ongoing. -with GMS counterpart contributions ($0.09 million/yr). Meetings organized to discuss key thematic multicountry routes. MekongTourism.org features multi-country routes and plots the 11 multi-country routes as defined in GMS Tourism Sector Strategy on Google Map. Sponsored by Thailand (TAT), MekongMoments promotes eight (8) multi-country routes including Thailand, powered by social commerce technology, featuring experiences in these geo-fenced areas, plus Thai Royal Projects. Mekong Mini Movie Festival campaign (MekongMinis.com) generated over 1 million video views and a media reach of over 22 million via 300 eligible shared videos, inspiring travelers all over the world. Now in its second year, results are expected to be even higher in terms of quantity and quality. Experience Mekong Collection (ExperienceMekong. org) curated over 300 small responsible travel businesses and social enterprises, promoting inclusive growth, secondary destinations, and sustainable tourism. Now in its 3rd year, in 2020 the Experience Mekong Collection Showcases will feature six responsible travel businesses, in partnership with Mahidol University (Thailand). In 2019, TAT invited 10 bloggers/ media influencers from long-haul market, e.g., Europe, the Americas and Africa to attend our project the -Southern Tourism Corridor (STC) Blogger FAM Trip on Gastronomy Tourism- during 19 - 26 August, 2019. This project aimed to explore Gastronomy Tourism along the Southern coastal tourism corridor connecting Chanthaburi and Rayong of Thailand to Kampot in the Kingdom of Cambodia and Phu Quoc in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, respectively.
