Project Description

At the Kunming and Vientiane GMS Summits, communicable diseases control (CDC) was identified as a priority for regional collaboration in view of emerging infectious diseases and the development of economic corridors. In 2005, ADB and WHO/WPRO supported the first GMS Regional CDC Project (CDC1) for a total of $38.75 million for 4 years. A second GMS Regional CDC Project (CDC2) is proposed for 2010 for an amount of $42.5 million, including an ADB contribution of $34 million, with project preparatory technical assistance in 2009. CDC2 will support regional cooperation, provincial capacity building, and improvements in CDC in Cambodia, the Lao PDR, and Viet Nam (the CLV countries) in the GMS. CDC2 is in the Regional Country Operations Business Plan and is in line with Strategy 2020 (MDGs, cross-border issues).
