Project Description

Development and poverty alleviation efforts in the past have been compartmentalized, focusing on either -urban- or -rural- issues with little consideration of their linkages. But as the flow of goods, services, people, labor, capital, and information are intertwined, it is now acknowledged that the planning and development of urban and rural areas and their subregions should be integrated. The TA therefore sought to explore basic questions regarding the nature and types of urban, rural, and subregional linkages, their relevance in the globalizing world, and implications for development policy and planning to guide ADB-s future operations in the urban sector. The issue of rural-urban linkages is one of the urban sector committee-s priorities for knowledge product development.
