Project Description
The objective of the proposed TA is to prepare a project to improve intraregional telecommunications linkages within the GMS. The TA will incorporate in the Project those components shown to be technically, financially, and economically feasible, and that further the goal of economic development within the subregion. The prepared Project will address and mitigate possible environmental and social impacts. It will also address long-term operational aspects through the preparation of a Project component to strengthen the relevant operating agencies in such areas as network management, service development, maintenance, and commercial operations. The proposed TA will assess the feasibility of improving telecommunications facilities among the countries of Thailand, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia, which define the East Loop. The East Loop consists of a number of transmission routes (including existing routes of national networks); switching centers; interface equipment; and other facilities required to make up a transmission ring.
