Project Description

The road will promote connectivity between the PRC and Myanmar, and will improve the region-s road network. The PRC and Myanmar have had some technical exchanges concerning the project. (1) Mandalay-Tigyaing Expressway Mandalay-Tigyaing Expressway is an important part of the main trunk line of north-south high- way in Myanmar and it is also the main axis of road network of the east-west direction -Chi- na-Myanmar-India- Interna- tional Corridor in the future develop- ment plan of Myanmar. With the new round of planning by the Myanmar government, and in order to meet the future development and strategic needs, to promote the economic development and social stability along the project and improve road capacity and comfort, it is imperative that Myanmar needs to extend the existing Yangon-Mandalay Highway north- wards, thus forming a national north- south transport corridor. Heading east from Tigyaing, it passes northern Shan State and southern Kachin State, spans mountainous areas along Shweli River and leads to Muse, an important trade port at China-Myanmar border. Heading west from Tigyaing, it connects the existing Mandalay-Myitkyina Road and may head west to Myanmar- India border in the future. (2) Tigyaing-Muse Expressway Tigyaing-Muse Expressway is an important part of the main trunk line of east-west- highway in Myanmar and it is also the main axis of road network of the east-west direction -China-Myanmar-India- International Corridor in the future development plan of Myanmar. Meanwhile, this project is connected with Mandalay-Tigyaing Expressway (the main trunk line of north-south transportation in Myanmar) at Tigyaing. With the new round of planning by the Myanmar government, and in order to meet the future development and strategic needs, to promote the economic development and social stability along the project and improve road capacity and comfort, it is imperative that Myanmar needs to upgrade the existing road network. (3) Nay Pyi Taw - Kyaukphyu Highway. The project connects the deep-water port city in western Myanmar, i.e. Kyaukpyu and the capital city Naypy- itaw, and connects with the Yangon- Mandalay Highway. As a north-south transport artery of the national road network, the Yangon-Mandalay Highway plays an important role in the national road network. The Kyaukpyu-Naypyitaw Highway, as an east- west branch of the transport artery, has played a role in increasing the radiation intensity of the road network. As a special economic zone, Kyaukpyu-s future development is inseparable from the support of the road network. Therefore, the connection between Kyaukpyu and Naypyitaw will greatly promote the upgrading of the national road network in Myanmar.
